We wanted to share a little story behind one of the songs from our Addicted To You album, Never Change.
When we wrote this song, we were thinking about how easy it can be to let other people’s opinions influence the decisions we make, sometimes without even realising it. And that’s not just something we’ve experienced with music. It’s something we’ve both had to learn in our personal lives too.
Over the years, we’ve come to realise that you can’t please everyone. There will always be people who think you should be doing things differently, making different choices or living your life in a certain way. And when those opinions come from people you care about, it can be particularly difficult not to let them influence you.
But one thing we’ve learnt together is the importance of trusting ourselves and each other. We don’t always get everything right, and we’ve certainly made mistakes along the way, but we’d rather learn from our own decisions than spend our lives following somebody else’s expectations.
That same belief has shaped our music and we’ve always believed in doing things our own way, even when it’s meant taking the harder road.
Because at the end of the day, the most important thing is being able to look back and know we've lived a life in a way that feels true
Which brings us to somewhere rather special… Radio Caroline.
We filmed the music video for Never Change aboard the Ross Revenge, the former pirate radio ship that’s now home to Radio Caroline. Back in the 1960s, Radio Caroline challenged the established broadcasting system by playing music that people wanted to hear, rather than simply following what the mainstream stations were offering. It became a symbol of independence, freedom and doing things differently.
So filming Never Change aboard such an iconic ship felt particularly fitting.
Radio Caroline stood up for something it believed in, even when the odds were stacked against it. And although our journey is very different, that independent spirit is something we’ve always connected with.
For us, Never Change isn’t about refusing to grow or evolve. It’s about knowing who you are and holding on to that, whatever life throws at you.
We thought we’d share the video with you again, especially now you know a little more about the story behind it.
